European programme

CHR’s programmes in Europe focus on combating gender stereotypes and inequality through a sequenced approach that combines evidence, collaboration, and practical application.

Our work starts by documenting and analysing stereotypes and discriminatory practices through research, audiovisual storytelling and targeted analysis, contributing to ongoing European efforts to challenge harmful narratives and promote equality.

For the upcoming period, CHR will focus on gender stereotypes in sports media in particular. We are working on developing a practical guide for sport journalists, codes of conduct for sport media institutions, and a policy report capturing key findings and actionable recommendations. These tools are applied through targeted training for sports journalists, future media professionals, and representatives of media institutions and professional bodies, strengthening capacities for gender-sensitive and transformative, ethical, non-discriminatory and inclusive reporting.

Additionally, we aim to translate the results of the work into evidence-based policy recommendations and engages national and EU-level stakeholders to support their uptake in sports media practice, journalism education, and regulatory frameworks. By addressing the role of sports media in shaping social norms and behaviours, the project contributes to EU priorities on gender equality, non-discrimination, and the reduction of structural inequalities, supporting sustainable improvements in professional standards and more inclusive sports media narratives.
