This OHCHR manual includes the material needed to deliver an orientation or workshop on trauma-informed interviewing in the context of investigating and documenting sexual violence. The modules included in this manual are designed to strengthen the capacity of human rights monitors/investigators to interview survivors of sexual violence using trauma-informed strategies to facilitate communication, protect the mental health and psychosocial wellbeing of the interviewee and interviewer and interpreters if present, and gather reliable and credible information about any incidents of sexual violence.
The modules in this manual provide participants with the opportunity to build the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to:
- Use trauma-informed interviewing strategies to gather reliable information from survivors of sexual violence;
- Protect the well-being of interviewees, interviewers, and interpreters during the interview and investigation process;
The modules included in this manual focus on how to conduct trauma-informed interviews with women, men, girls, and boys who may have experienced sexual violence. It does not include modules on the legal definition of sexual violence, documentation, or other aspects of investigative proceedings.
